About the Event
In a landmark event for the region, Matai Society organised the one of its kind LGBTQ community run in the history of Bishnupur district on August 29, 2025. Titled the "Matai Run for Suicide Prevention," the event marked a powerful stride towards community visibility, peer support, and mental health advocacy.
The run was supported by the Mariwala Health Initiative under the SPLGBTQ Project 2024-25, a project dedicated to peer support and suicide prevention within LGBTQ communities. Public advocacy is a crucial pillar of community building, and this run was envisioned as a community-led event to loudly champion its campaign motto: suicide prevention amongst LGBTQ communities.
The event saw a vibrant and diverse gathering of support, with participation from representatives of:
