Matai Society operates through four integrated verticals that form the foundation of its efforts.

You will assist at any one of them:

Livelihood

Enhancing economic independence and stability by providing skill-building, vocational training, and sustainable income-generating opportunities tailored to the needs of marginalized groups.

Psychosocial Health

Promoting mental well-being and resilience through counseling, support networks, and accessible mental health resources, recognizing the profound effects of conflict and displacement on individual and community health.

LGBTQ+ Community Building

Creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals to connect, grow, and advocate for their rights, fostering an environment of acceptance, visibility, and inclusivity within the broader societal fabric.

Education

Empowering individuals through education initiatives that prioritize access to learning, capacity-building workshops, and awareness programs aimed at equipping people with the tools they need to shape their futures.

Make Impact

IYONG has employed 35 individuals affected by conflict over the past year. We seek an enthusiastic fellow with a background in textiles, handloom, research, and storytelling to enhance our understanding of the indigenous textile and fabric industry.

Qualification & Stipend

QUALIFICATION: Minimum Bachelor's degree in Textiles, Handloom Vocational Studies, or Social Science, along with experience working with handloom artisans in Manipur.

 

DURATION: 1 Month (10 Nov - 10 Dec 2024)

 

STIPEND: 10000-15000 INR depending on prior skill.

Role

Textile Researcher

  • Document handloom artisans and their handloom products in Bishnupur district, Manipur.

  • Produce photo stories, short video documentaries, articles.

  • Social Media Curation of the above works.

  • Participation in workshops, conferences, research projects

Spread Awareness

Contribute to our cause by spreading awareness about the importance of supporting indigenous textiles. Help us educate others on the value of preserving handloom heritage. Together, we can create a sustainable future.
