The mass internal displacement of May 3, 2023 (Manipur conflict) made a significant demographic shift in various districts of Manipur including in Bishnupur. Overnight, as many as 30 relief camps were opened at various parts of Moirang subdivision. And the plight of the internally displaced persons (IDP) now has become part of the socio-economic and political fabric of the region.
In almost two years of internal displacement and languishing in relief camps, the stories, struggles and aspirations of the IDP are slowly fading away. The “hope for a return to home is a distant dream, a fearful wish, afraid of the gun, fire and death”, all of them say.
