About the Event
The meet was organised by Matai Society & supported by SAATHII. It was a culmination of young faith leaders who represent the greater demographic of religious practitioners in the valley districts of Manipur. Moreover, these representatives are queer with an expertise in Sanamahism,Hinduism and the syncretism of the above. With one, Nanao Laishram who is a Transgender Woman sharing her experiences and her cultural retrospections of 'Nupa Amaibi' or Gender fluid Shamans.
A state level Vaishnavism collective and former Bajrang Dal member - Daniel Yumkham, who is also a student of history sharing their experience of practicing conservative Hindu philosophy.
And, Assistant professor Dr. Yumlembam Bidyananda who is a renowned Dancer, Actor and Queer personality sharing their recollection of the syncretic values and how the cultural elements of both religions impact young queer youth. The meet was also attended by other cultural practitioners, artists and writers such as Siddharth Haobijam, Linthoi Chanu among others.
